Built for happier hens

I started The Happy Hen Co. because I came across something that just made sense — calci worms. A natural, sustainable product that hens genuinely love.

Coming from a farming background, I’ve always cared about the countryside, how we produce food, and the role animals play within that. There is something important about keeping things simple, natural, and in balance.

And yet, when it comes to chickens, something never quite felt right.

Chickens are natural foragers. They scratch the ground, hunt for insects, and explore constantly. They are omnivores by nature.

But in reality, we often feed them a very controlled, sanitised, largely vegetarian diet — and miss an opportunity to give them something closer to how they are meant to live.

That is where calci worms come in.

Calci worms — or black soldier fly larvae — are a natural part of a hen’s diet. They support natural behaviour, add enrichment, and provide a simple way to make feeding feel more engaging for both you and your hens.

We believe keeping hens should be fun, rewarding, and genuinely enjoyable — not complicated, not overthought, and not disconnected from nature.

The Happy Hen Co. is about bringing things back to that simple idea.
